Abstract

The combustion motor is a motor which in the way it works requires combustion by converting chemical energy into mechanical energy. Combustion that often occurs in the combustion chamber can result in heat in the combustion chamber where the combustion requires an alternating motion of the piston. In order for the piston to have a normal perforation, a strong component is needed to push and support the piston. The component that drives a piston in the automotive world is called a connecting rod. The choice of connecting rod material must be considered with great precision. One of the ingredients that is often used is Al Alloy and Ti Alloy. This research is to test and analyze the connecting rod with the finite element method. Finite element analysis on the connecting rod was carried out with the help of ANSYS software. ANSYS simulation is intended to test the difference in total deformation, normal stress, and safety factor in each material. The results of the analysis show that the largest deformation is experienced on the connecting rod with Al Alloy material with a value of 0.672 mm while in Ti Alloy material the deformation experienced is 0.496 mm.
